Mount Papandayan Garut, Indonesia



Danao Papandayan

Mount Papandayan (2666m) is located at Garut; around 3 hours drive from Bandung. The best time to visit Garut is from June until September, when you will have a pleasant or warm temperature and little rainfall.

Death Forest

The hike is not difficult but the montain is huge. We spent about 6 hours there. From the entrance, we hiked around 20 min to reach the caters with incredible view of bubbling sulphur holes. After that we continued our hike to Death Forest. The dark trees are due to the volcanic eruption back in 1772; together with the mist it creates a stunning panorama. From there we trekked to Pondok Salada; a camping ground. We continued our hike to Tegal Alun(2622m above sea level) with edelwiss filled all over the place; biggest field in Southeast Asia (~200 hectares). After that our guide brought us to Danau Papandayan through hidden path.  The views are magnificent and worth all the sweat.

*Entrance is cheaper during weekdays (200k IDR/~ Rm60) and weekend (300K IDR/~Rm90).  

*From Bandung you can easily rent a car with driver to go to Papandayan. Can contact En Sofyan (+62 838-2275-6871). We enjoyed our 4 days trip with him in Bandung.

*Get a 2D1N camping package if you want to catch the sunrise/sunset and for star gazing.


Tegal Alun
Compared to other tourist attractions around Bandung, this was truly the highlight of our trip. Worthwhile and unforgetable. GO FOR IT!😄

Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge (TT5)

         Tanjung Tualang Dredge No. 5(TT5) was the last remaining dredge in Malaysia. It weighs 4,500 tons and is supported by a pontoon of 75 meters in length, 35 meters in width and 3 meters in depth. It was built in England in 1938 and in operation for 44 years until 1982 when the industry was in rapid decline due to low tin prices and high operating cost. All the other dredges in the area were being sold off for its high metal value but TT5 was successfully saved, preserved and restored.       The place was run by experienced guide. The tour itself lasted for around 30 minutes could accommodate up to 20 persons. The visit there was truly an eye-opener as we got the opportunity to get up close and personal with something we always read from history books. After the tour you can wander around the lake where the dredge is sited.
